Bluejay Productions
provides professional digital recording in the studio, live on
stage, outdoors, in your living room, or wherever you want to
record. We have three recording spaces available: the
Gold Beach Studio on the Oregon coast, the
Bluejay Project Studio in Mark's home near downtown Medford, or
the
Live Room at Tom's Guitars,1103 North Riverside Ave,
Medford, Oregon.
Studio
Recording
The Gold Beach
Studio is on the beach just north of the Rogue River and the
town of Gold Beach in Oregon, USA. The studio features a live room with 27 foot,
wood-beamed ceiling, great acoustics, and a Pacific ocean view,
Recordings are captured digitally at 88.2k/24 bit resolution on a
custom built digital audio workstation. Neumann, Earthworks,
Audio-Technica, and Shure microphones and Presonus mic preamps are
used on the front end. This studio has accommodations for 8
people, two kitchens, two outdoor decks and a hot tub overlooking the
Pacific ocean. This is the perfect place to relax and produce inspired
music.
The Bluejay Project
Studio is for composers, singer/songwriters, bands recording
basic tracks and overdubs, vocals, voice-overs, and audio books.
The project studio
is equipped with high quality microphones and preamps, and a digital
audio workstation running Sonar 8.5 and Waves Mercury
plug-ins (Equipment List).
The vocal booth is a 4' x 6' isolation booth by
VocalBooth.com. The
booth has a window and sits within a 12' x 18' room that can
accommodate several musicians.
The Live Room at
Tom's Guitars is a 60' x 25' room with an 18' ceiling and 2'
high stage at one end. The room has live acoustics that
produce great recordings and good ambience for concerts. This
is a great studio space for bands and performers that want to
capture a live sound, or to record a concert performance.
Live Recording
Live recording is a
great way to capture the performance energy of your music.
Microphones are placed on stage to capture all instruments and
vocals. Live performances are recorded on a 16-track digital hard
disc recorder. If you need a place to perform, The Live
Room at Tom's Guitars has a built-in stage and space for a 100
person audience. Bluejay will record at your location of choice.
Voice-Overs
(VO)
VO recording is
provided for audio books, interviews, commercials, internet, film
and television production. The vocal
booth is a quiet and comfortable space for recording the voice.
Our
Phone Patch allows anyone to
communicate with voice talent in the studio on a phone from
anywhere in the world, and provides clear audio for directors,
producers, and interviewers. VO recordings are delivered via
FTP for fast turnaround. Phone Patch and FTP file transfers
are a viable alternative to ISDN. Bluejay has provided VO
recording for television programs (i.e.
CSI Miami), commercials (Colgate
Total), and interviews (WNYC.org).
Expert voice editing is also available.
Karaoke
Singers
Bluejay records
karaoke singers and produces songs that make talented singers sound
like professional recording artists. Singers must provide
their own karaoke tracks, and should have quality tracks that are
recorded with real instruments, as these will provide the most
musical result.
Recording Rates
Recording rates are
charged by the hour and quoted on an individual project basis. Bluejay's rate are
competitive and among the most reasonable in the Rogue Valley.
Call Mark at (541) 779-3023, or email
recording@bluejayproductions.com to discuss your
recording needs and get a rate quote.
Mixing
Mixing is the
next step after the recording session, and where much of the magic
of song craft and production happens. The engineer, producer
and band work together to create a great "mix" of the
multi-track recording, choosing the best takes, setting instrument
volume levels, making tonal adjustments with EQ, compression, pitch-correction, adding effects such as reverb, delay, chorus, and other creative brainstorming.
All mixing is done at the Bluejay Project Studio on a DAW, Sonar 8
and Waves Mercury effects, monitoring on Mackie HR824
monitors and custom stereo speakers..
Mastering
Mastering is
the last step in creating a great recording. Mastering adds
the final polish to the mix that makes your music ready for radio and
commercial release. Bluejay
can perform quality mastering of your mixes on a digital audio
mastering system. Please see the
Mastering page for more information.
Bluejay Productions often performs CD
mastering for clients who record and mix here. However, there is a lot to be said for using the services of a
mastering studio. We are happy to provide unmastered mixes
and recommend a mastering studio if you'd like to have another "pair of ears" do the mastering.
CD
Duplication/CD Artwork
Bluejay can provide
you with a quote for short-run (quantities of 10 to 300 CD-R
copies) or long-run (300+ commercial pressed discs) CD duplication
and CD package artwork. Our CD duplicators are the best in
the business, and will produce a great looking CD package for your
project. CD duplication quotes are provided on an individual
basis, so please call or email Bluejay for a quote at
CDDuplication@bluejayproductions.com
Experience and
skill make the difference
The experience and
skill of the engineer who records and mixes your project makes all
the difference in producing a professional recording. Audio
engineer and owner Mark T. Johnson has over 20 years experience in
audio recording, producing, and as a musician. Many of his mixes have been
published on commercial CDs, video games, commercials, and are currently being played on FM radio (see the
Music page). Mark will
comfortably guide you through the recording process and help you
capture great performances.
"It is my
intention to see that you are comfortable, relaxed, and in your
most creative mindset when we are recording"
Please call (541) 779-3023, or
send email to Mark at
recording@bluejayproductions.com
to schedule an
appointment, to check out the studio, or to talk about your
recording project.
