Bluejay Productions
provides professional studio and live recording services. We
are a small business that offers personal attention to your
project. Two studios are available for recording; the
Bluejay Project Studio in Medford, Oregon, or the larger
Wolf Pack Sound Studio in Rogue River, Oregon, which has a live
room and a Kawai grand piano. Voice recording is provided for
voice actors and narrators working in audio book, T.V., film, and
commercial productions. Live recording of concerts and
events can be done at your location of choice. Recording your
wedding, house party, or special event entertainment can provide a
wonder gift and lasting memories. If you are video taping
your event, a professional recording by Bluejay will provide great
sounding audio to dub into the video that beats recordings made
from the camera's microphone hands down.
Studio
Recording
The Bluejay Project
Studio in Medford is our smaller, budget-conscious studio equipped with professional microphones and
mic preamps interfaced with a PC digital audio workstation (see the
Equipment List). The
recording booth is a 4' x 6' acoustically treated isolation booth,
manufactured by
VocalBooth.com. The
recording booth is placed within a
12' x 18' room that can accommodate several musicians. This
studio works great for small bands, singer/songwriters, production
music, karaoke singers, voice actors,
narrators, and any projects that can be accomplished by
simultaneously recording up to 16 tracks followed by overdubing of
unlimited additional tracks.
The larger studio
that is available to Bluejay's clients is the Wolf Pack Sound
Studio in Rogue River, which is equipped with a 600 square foot
live room and a Kawai
RX-6 7-foot grand piano, a Mackie digital 8 bus console, a 24-track
PC digital audio workstation or a Pro Tools LE
16-track recording system. Professional microphones available
in the studio
include Neumann, AKG, Audio Technica, and Earthworks. This
studio works well for large
ensembles, pianists, string quartets, live band recording, and those projects that need a great sounding
room.
Live Recording
Live recording is a
great way to capture the performance energy of your music.
Microphones are placed on stage to capture all instruments and
vocals. Live performances are recorded with a maximum of 16 tracks on
a digital recorder capable of resolutions up to 96k/24 bit and is
accomplished on site at your location of choice.
Voice-Overs
Voice-over recording
is provided for film and television production. Our recording
booth is the perfect, quiet and comfortable environment for voice
talent. Phone patch equipment is available to enable a
director/producer at a remote location to listen in and direct the
voice talent, and provides clear audio through the telephone line
so you can hear and speak to the voice talent during the recording
session from the comfort and convenience of your studio, office or
home.
Karaoke
Singers
Bluejay can record
your voice with karaoke tracks to produce professional sounding
mixes that sound as good as the original recording. You may
provide your own karaoke tracks, or Bluejay can purchase them for
you as available. A quality karaoke track recorded with real
instruments will provide the best sound for your vocal recordings,
and tracks used at their original pitch generally yield the best
results.
Recording Rates
Recording rates are
quoted on an individual project basis. Bluejay's rate are
competitive and among the most reasonable in the Rogue Valley.
Please call Mark at (541) 779-3023, or email
recording@bluejayproductions.com to discuss
your recording requirements and to get a rate quote and cost
estimate.
Mixing
Mixing is the
next step after the recording process, and where much of the magic
of song craft and production happens. The engineer and
producer/band work together to create a great "mix" by choosing the best takes, setting instrument
volume levels, making tonal adjustments with EQ, compression, and
pitch-correction, adding effects such as reverb, delay, and chorus, and other creative brainstorming.
All mixing is done at the Bluejay Project Studio.
Mastering
Mastering is
the last step in creating a great recording. Mastering adds
the final polish to the mix that makes your music ready for radio and
commercial release. Bluejay
can perform quality mastering of your mixes on a digital audio
mastering system. Please see the
Mastering page for more information.
Bluejay Productions often performs CD
mastering for clients who record and mix here. However, there is a lot to be said for using the services of a
mastering studio. We are happy to provide unmastered mixes
and recommend a mastering studio if you'd like to have another "pair of ears" do the mastering.
CD
Duplication/CD Artwork
Bluejay can provide
you with a quote for short-run (quantities of 1 - 300 CD-R copies)
or long-run (300+ commercial pressed discs) CD duplication and CD
package artwork. Our CD duplicators are the best in the
business, and will produce a professional sounding, great looking
CD package for your project. CD duplication quotes are
provided on an individual basis, so call or email Bluejay for a
quote.
Experience and
skill make the difference
The experience and
skill of the engineer who records and mixes your project makes all
the difference in producing a professional recording. Audio engineer and owner Mark
T. Johnson has over 15 years of experience in the recording
industry, and
more as gigging musician. Many of his mixes have been
published on commercial music CDs, video games, commercials, and are currently being played on FM radio (see the
Music page). Mark will
comfortably guide you through the recording process and help you
capture great performances.
Please call (541) 779-3023, or
send email to Mark at
recording@bluejayproductions.com
to schedule an
appointment, to check out the studio, or just to talk about your
recording project.
